I have a question, my gums bled when brushing my teeth. I do not have plaque etc but I have been told time and time again that i brush my teeth too hard. My last dentist said she had nothing to remove, not even at the back. I asked about my receeding gums at the bottom front of my teeth, she said that i simply have been waring them away.
My next dentist said that my gums bleed easily as their is no plaque etc. he suggested i brush my teeth with a softer brush and change my technique, after asking me if I was in good health!!!
I have changed my brush for a softer one and brush a lot more carefully now so my gums do not bleed.
I cannot believe the answer was that simple, does anyone know if careful brushing will help to strenghten my gums so they will not bleed in the future when I have my teeth cleaned on a routine check?
Thanks
Bleeding Gums?
Bleeding gums during brushing is due to one of two things either trauma or gingivitis. Both of which can be corrected by using a suitable brush and a correct technique.
Everybody has plaque, to a greater or lessor degree. Use of floss and/or single tufted brushes will help to remove interproximal plaque(between the teeth) which most commonly causes bleeding gums and is difficult to remove with a normal toothbrush.

Reply:yes that will help if you start brushing with a soft brush. your gums will heal. you should always brush with a soft brush anyway.

Reply:Bleeding gums, f*cking teeth- It's all aggravation, ain't it? Get well soon.
Reply:YOU MUST INCLUDE VITAMIN C RICH FOOD IN YOUR DIET .
IT WILL PREVENT ANY FURTHER OCCURENCE OF GUM BLEEDING.
AMLA, ORANGES, LEMON,APPLE,ETC. ARE RICH IN VIT. C.
Reply:My mother's gums used to bleed each time she brushed, I remember trying to make mine bleed like hers as I so much wanted to be like her... of course it turned out she had gingivitis and during her 40's I remember her pain and misery as finally she began to lose tooth after tooth, because of her receding gums. Happily I don't suffer from bleeding gums as she did, but my son had problems with his gums bleeding recently.... I encouraged him to carefully brush, floss and use a mouthwash in hopes to stop the bleeding and I'm happy to say his gums have been much better with this routine. Whatever you do, DO NOT LET THIS SLIDE get help before you lose your healthy teeth.
Reply:You gotta eat the right vitamins and avoid hard toothbrushes. Medium, soft okay.
Reply:A little amount of blood is ok. When you remove plaque there is a little bleeding.
If you are brushing too hard use an electric toothbrush. They clean better than brushes and stop you from pressing too hard. Once you've tried it you won't go back
Reply:Actually you might find you have a disease called piorhoea (that might not quite be the right spelling but as they say, it's near enough for jazz!) and your dentists should both be shot. Left untreated you'll lose your teeth prematurely. I speak from experience in that I contracted this disease when I was in my mid-twenties, and it took twice weekly visits to the dentist for over a year as well as the daily use of gum massagers (NOT toothpicks!) and special mouth washes all that time before I was able to get back to the six-monthly visits again.
Reply:i would have said gum disease but the dentist would have noticed this probably just soft gums don't brush so hard. and no there's nothing can strenghten your gums.
Reply:It can be a sign of gingivitis (inflammation of the gums caused by build up of tartar or plaque and also from over-brushing the teeth). If it persists, get it checked out. How hard are you scrubbing your teeth? If you scrub them really vigorusly from side-to-side, then they can bleed quite easily, however, if you brush them gently in a circular motion up and down, they are less likely to do this. Another thing to try would be a softer toothbrush, the one you're using might be too harsh for your gums.
I hope that explains things a little, take care!
Reply:It sounds like you have no need to worry. Your gums should not bleed - and if being more gentle fixed the problem you are probably on the right track.
My personal picks for healthy gums: Floss once a day (be sure not to snap the floss into the tissue, it should glide alongside each tooth -so for every time you slide the floss between your teeth you're actually flossing 1/2 of two different teeth). Sonicare is an electric toothbrush that does an excellent job - with virtually no chance of brushing "too hard". - You don't even use a brushing motion with it - you just hold it at the gumline and it "vibrates" the plaque away!
Good for you for taking your teeth seriously - you'll be glad you did!
Reply:well my Dr said brush hard that should stop the bleeding so if not brushing hard works or you then stick to it there is a Colgate toothpaste out which is in a gold box it to build up your reseeding teeth
Reply:the best thing you can do if they do bleed is not to stop brushing them as this will make it worse and run your toothbrush under the hot water tap first, and floss on a daily basis
