Question about my gums?

I went to the dentist because I thought my gums were receding. They were red and puffy, and there were brown spots too. The dentist told me my gums were not receding and that they would get better after a cleaning. So I got my teeth cleaned, and my gums returned to their normal pink color, and have remained that way. But there are still brown spots, and I think my tooth is coming out through the bottom of my gum, but I'm not sure if it's just an irritation or not. So was the dentist right? Are my gums turning brow because of something other than gum recession. I hear from someone that it may have to do with my skin color or something like that...If that's the case, I have dark brown skin. Could that be it?

Question about my gums?
I was asking myself that very question as I was reading your problem. I have never seen any of my patients with brown spots on their gums except those of darker skin colour.

This is simply normal ethnic pigmentation which is usually patchy where gums are concerned. Absolutely nothing to woory about
Reply:Go get a second opinion from another dentist.
Reply:I disagree with dentist_s. Dr. Clifton O Dummett writ ting in the American Journal of Periodontology put the question of pigment in gingiva (gums) to scientific analysis and found absolutely no correlation of skin color to gingival pigmentation. You should be worried if there is a purplish color between the teeth, if your gums bleed easily and if you notice puffy gums. Get your teeth cleaned regularly and floss, floss, floss.
