Swollen gums?

i have braces and had big gaps between my teeth which were closed quickly but when the gaps closed my gums got inflamed and swelled halfway down my teeth. (it was due to the gaps closing quickly not bad hygeine, the orthodontist told me this) the orthodontist and dentist said to brush well and us salt water to rinse my mouth with. they also said that it was probably likely that the gums would stay swollen and aftre my braces come off that i will need surgery to cut the gums back up to there normal size. is there anyone who has had this done, what do they do exactually, does it hurt much?

Swollen gums?
I have never heard of this but I am a medical nurse not a dentist assistant. After the braces come off I would rinse with 50/50 peroxide and floss way into the gum above the tooth %26amp; do each tooth,it may hurt a little but it strenghten the teeth, do it every day( I do It while I watch TV alone off course) and brush your whole mouth teeth, gums, tounge, roof and inside of cheeks, I have a very good dental hygentist and she really cleans my teeth well.

Also there is some purple med the phamacy may have ,if its even carried anymore that you can put on your teeth to make the swelling go away. I took my daughter to a party when she was 2yrs old and she drank after someone with an infection and her gums swelled to almost covering her teeth, the doctors gave me med after med that did not clear it up, and low and behold I caught it ,my mom said old timers called it trench mouth, she went all over Houston looking for that purple dye and made us put it on( we looked really weird) swelling went down in 24hrs , never had the proplem since and we both have good teeth.
