I have my first appointment with my ortho on saturday and in about a month I will be getting my braces put on. My concern with getting gum grafting done before braces was that my teeth and gums will be slowly shifting and so would be best to wait until my entire procedure was done as I also thought that whitening my teeth would be best until after my braces are off (to me kinda makes sense to have braces done, then grafting, then whitened). But then I have read that some actually get recession due to braces (more on the bottom) so they end up getting grafting done anyway and then I have also read that some have had grafting done while actually having braces on at the time. In reference to gum grafting, generally, how much is the entire procedure...specifically on the upper canines? Any advice/experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
What first, gum grafting or braces? Also are grafts VERY noticeable on upper canines or do the two gums match?
I had fixed braces which covered my top teeth and I didn't need gum grafting.. i wouldn't worry because not everyone needs it. Talk to your ortho and they will advise you as to whether it is necessary or not.. xx
