Fat lip.. purple gums.. how bad is this?

i was hit in the mouth with a softball





the tooth is fine and it has stopped bleeding


there was a cut in my lip and the nurse said there was one just above my tooth in the gums


right now my gum is purple (from that cut, until the gum touches my tooth) and has no feeling





its really gross.. and i dont know what to do about it





is it possible that the gum can be dead?

It's possible that you could have damaged one of the nerves in your gum but it's also possible that the swelling is squeezing a nerve making it feel numb. Plus your gums aren't the most sensitive part of your mouth on a good day. The purple is probably just a bruise from the bleeding if it gets worse I would go back to the doctor just to check.


In the mean time you might want to rinse your mouth with salt water periodically to keep the cut clean until it heals.
