Gums (Dentist help)??

Hi,

my 11 year old friends gums has been bleeding. (Not when she brushes but like, if she brushes too agressively.) I know that's normal but sometimes she'd wake up and then suck in air on the roof of her mouth and then the gum behind her two front teeth kind of started bleeding. it happens sometimes when she eats ice cream. and she's been taking care of it quite well, brushing it two - three times a day, 3 - 5 minutes a day and flossing and such. When they stop bleeding, the gums look fine but the tip of the gum is red like it's still bleeding but its not. Why is this so? Shes so worried... we don't know if this is a serious problem or something. thank you so much! i'm hoping to find an answer

Gums (Dentist help)??
Hi! Your friend is over brushing and way too hard. I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and she is destroying the soft tissue of the gum. Tell her to stop. She is not scrubbing the kitchen floor. Gum tissue is delicate and must be treated with respect. Brushing with anything other then a soft toothbrush, gently, and for 1-2 minutes will abrade the teeth and cause gum irratation, bleeding and then gum loss. Please tell her to stop now. When she goes for her check-up, remind her to have the dentist show her the right way to brush, floss and use a fluoride rinse or she will have serious problems in the future with losing teeth or gum disease. Over doing it is NOT going to be helpful, only destructive. Brush the back of you hand, if you brush leaves any marks, it is too hard of brush and you are applying way too much pressure. If you have any other questions, I will try to help. Marie
Reply:what about moth wash, warm salt water also, hydrogen peroxide is also a mouth wash*,
Reply:Have her ask her parents to make a dental appointment for her. He can tell her what's wrong. I doubt very highly if anyone can tell you whats wrong without seeing her.
Reply:maybe her teeth will come out because theres not enough gums.
