Brushing gums?

My dentist ask me to brush also my gums to prevent my gingivitis. My question is, is brushing your gums fine? will it not harm my gums? will it not be receded? Is brushing gums normal?

Brushing gums?
Obviously not if your dentist told you to do it. It is normal to brush your gums while you brush your teeth. It's not harmful at all, it's actually good for them.
Reply:Brushing gums is recommended by many dentists.
Reply:We are not dentists....
Reply:Brushing your gums is perfectly healthy, normal, and rational. It does prevent gingivitis. Be careful though, don't brush too hard, or else your gums will swollen.
Reply:It's completely normal, by brushing your gums you're making them stronger and also making your teeth healthier in the process.. and when you go to the dentists for annual check-ups you don't have to worry about bleeding gums or any of that jazz, it's completely safe to brush them, as well as your tongue, hope I helped some.
Reply:yes it is normal just dont brush your gums hard if you brush your gums too hard they will bleed.but yes brushing your gums is normal thats what i am reccomend to do also.
Reply:it's important to brush your gums,

you may see a little bleeding if you don't
Reply:Yes, brush or massage your gums, but only very lightly. Use only a soft bristle toothbrush and don't press very hard or you'll damage your gums. You should also floss, unless the dentist told you not to for some reason. Flossing is very effective at removing food along the gumline to help prevent gingivitis. Also, a mouthwash like listerine or it's generic will help reduce gingivitis.
Reply:yes its fine, actually it stimulates blood flow.
Reply:brushing your gums is more than normal...it is highly recommended that you do so while brushing your teeth and tongue (to prevent thrush)...but be careful when brushing, be sure not to press on the toothbrush too hard, make it a gentle brush...keeps ur teeth looking healthy too...your gums may recede if you brush too hard, so be very careful...also dont forget to have your mouth looking and feeling even healthier, dont forget to floss between all ur teeth and not just some...SMILE!!
Reply:Brushing your gums can be tricky... Brushing your gums is very normal, and everyone should do it, however there are certian ways to do it. You should never use a harsh brush ( on your gums teeth --- ANYWHERE ) use a soft brush ALWAYS. Using a harsh brush and brushing improperly is why gums start to receed... even brushing the wrong way with a soft brush can receed gums. Brush gently in circular motions. I reccoment using a sonicare instead of a traditional brush. Remember to floss before you brush too... I don't know why so many people think you are suposed to floss after your done brushing your teeth. Use a mouthwash when you are finished to kill any bacteria that might still be remaining.

Happy brushing!!!
Reply:when a dentist say so, it is normal. it can help clean the mouth and keep bad bacteria at bay. but be sure that you brush your gums carefully so that it won't bleed. for more tips on gum care visit http://www.themouthdoctor.com
