When an older person get dental implants, (screwed onto piers down in the gums)are they really pain free?

I want to know, about how long does it take to adjust to dental implants? Are there people for which dental implants would NOT be advisable?

When an older person get dental implants, (screwed onto piers down in the gums)are they really pain free?
Not sure what you mean by screwed into piers: what is a pier?

There are no age restrictions to getting dental implants. My Prosthodontist put them in his elderly grandmother and she could eat steak sandwiches when all her peers were eating mush.

As for pain if your teeth are gone there is generally no real pain just soreness. You will either be numbed up or asleep (your preference) and feel nothing while they are placed either way.

The only thing that keeps one from getting implant is lack of bone in the jaws. There are no other restrictions. As for adjusting? When you get them you will wear a denture or as in my case my temporary teeth were screwed onto them immediately. After 5 or 6 months you get your permanent teeth. Mine took no adjusting and with a implant retained denture you will eat securely as one with natural teeth as the dentures will not move.

They are however, quite expensive.
Reply:I had a first one put in about 2 months ago. I am 55. It was glued not screwed. I had a bit of trouble because it was left a bit high so that caused too much pressure at the root inflaming my gums top and bottom but since the dentist polished off some more I would not know the difference between that and any of my normal teeth. It now gives no pain at all.
Reply:OLDER PEOPLE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE TO GET IMPLANTS. YOU MAY HAVE AN IMPLANT TO REPLACE A MISSING TOOTH(TEETH) AT ANY ADULT AGE. IMPLANTS AREN'T PAINFUL ONCE HEALING IS COMPLETE. THEY ARE SEEN STICKING OUT OF THE GUMS BECAUSE THEY ARE ANCHORED TO THE BONE BENEATH. IT'S A PROCEDURE THAT'S BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE IMPLANTS TO HOLD IN THEIR DENTURES ARE GLAD THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DENTAL PAIN.
Reply:Well frist off when they put them in no they wont hurt at all but once the medication wears off they will be very sore so the dentist will precribe pain medication and they will adjust them in the office by the second check up and over time if the bother you
Reply:If only they were pain free! The world would be a better place! Its just like any major dentistry work, like having a tooth out. It doesn't hurt whilst it's happening, but you will always have the aftermath of it. Though painkillers and other prescribed drugs will help to sort this out. But they are definately an investment worth having! xXx
Reply:Dental implants aren't just for older people, but anyone that needs a tooth or several teeth replaced. The surgery is done by an oral surgeon or periodontist.Typically a titanium base post is placed in the "jawbone"( maxilla or mandible ).There is of course post operative pain, but it is relieved with pain medication. The implant must heal for 9-12 months before the crown portion of the implant is placed. There are several patients not candidate for implants, particularly smokers and people with diabetes.Your dentist ,oral surgeon or periodontist need to do an intensive consultation before the surgery is advised. As a dental hygienist,I will probably never lose a tooth, but if I did,I would definitely choose implants over fixed bridgework or partial dentures,etc...
Reply:Dental Implants surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
