Bleeding gums....?

On my last visit to the dentist the results of an X-Ray showed that i have no problems, although my gums bleed when i brush. My dentist told me this was bacteria and advised i gargle with warm salty water in the morning and at night.

Two weeks on the gums are still bleeding, what should i do?

Bleeding gums....?
Floss!! Your dentist should have mentioned this. You can brush a lot, three times a day, however if you are not flossing then your gums still can remain swollen and bleed. Flossing is the ONLY way (also proxy brushes, go betweens, etc.) to get in-between your teeth. A toothbrush can't reach all the areas that need to be cleaned. In-between your teeth is where many dental problems start. Flossing is just as important as brushing. Flossing every twenty four hours is enough to keep your gums healthy (and teeth) Ask your dentist or dental hygienist to show you the correct way to brush and floss. You have to commit the time to your teeth and gums. The old saying "only floss the teeth you want to keep" is TRUE!!

The water pik is a useful aid to your oral hygiene routine, however it will not do the job that floss does. Between a water pik and nothing, by all means use a water pik, however it can't do the job that floss does, and you still will be missing much of the bacteria that floss removes.
Reply:Brush your gums as well as your teeth, and they will gradually harden up and stop bleeding. That was the advice from my dentist, and it worked.
Reply:I'd recommend using a soft bristle toothbrush and do not press so hard when brushing. This might help to stop it from happening.
Reply:well my cousin had this problem and the dentist told her it was because she doesnt brush everyday and that they would get used to it. but she brushes everyday so they told her that she needed to get a brush with softer brushels!! hope i helped.
Reply:While your dentist may have given you viable information it sounds as though you actually have a deficiency in your diet. If that is the case you need a really good multi-vitamin high in vitamins A%26lt;B%26gt;C%26gt;D%26gt;E and Zinc...Ask your pharmacist which brand he has that best meets your need. If your a smoker you will always be low in vitamins C and D unless you routinely take a very good daily supplement.
Reply:First, if they haven't cleaned your teeth, this should be done. the ultrasonic cleaning is great. Also, along with salt water, you might try Listerine or Crest Pro. I bought a water pik to try to help get my gums into better shape, it does a better job than flossing too (visit the water pik web site for a lot of great information, including information on bleeding gums and gingivitis). Also, I have an allergic reactiont to the composite in my caps which causes constant irritation/bleeding and we are looking into this. I thought I would mention it in case it is a possibility for you too. Good luck.
