Swollen gums during pregnancy?

Im 27 wks prego....Today I noticed that the gum that surrounds one of my front bottom teeth is swollen. Its never happened to me before and I heard this can happen during pregnancy. My gums bleed more then they have but never swollen. Does anyone know what to do to get the swelling down? Someone told me rinse with warm salt water? Any advice?

Swollen gums during pregnancy?
It is common in pregnancy. The reason is the pregnancy is causing your body to react more to the plaque (bacteria) that is found on your teeth. Plus you may be eating differently (possibly more sweets and more times a day). Try to brush and floss more often. The plaque forms normally on your teeth daily so the more you brush to keep it off the better. The plaque produces acids when it is exposed to sugar and sweets. The acid is what attacks your enamel and your gums. So try to avoid these things as well. Everytime you eat sweets it takes 30 minutes before the acids neutralize again. If it gets severe see your dental hygienist. Best wishes!!!
Reply:This happens because of your hormone levels. Are you flossing your teeth daily? I found that that really helps to reduce the swelling and bleeding when I brush.
Reply:I have had really bad swollen and bleeding gums all through this pregnancy. I usualy rinse with warm salt water, brush, rinse with salt water again and then rinse with mouth wash. I know it sounds like a lot but it seems to help...for me anyways.I floss every other day because it irritates my gums really bad.
Reply:Thats what I do and I use listerine, as nasty as it is, it cleans your mouth well. I bleed more when I brush now too. To the point that I didnt want to even brush my teeth sometimes. But the dentist told me to floss more to because it toughens your gums. You should also see your dentist at least once during your pregnancy..
Reply:If you are using a toothpaste with either whitening or sensitive teeth, then switch back to something that does neither.
