Newborn gums?

Since my baby was born her gums have been kind of contoured, not smooth. Is this normal?

My nephews gums 7 months are smooth and only recently have they started to be a bit bumpy as his teeth are coming through.

Is it that my baby will just start teething sooner?

Has anyone else noticed this on their newborn? She is now 11 weeks old. No sign of any teeth but i just need to be reassured.

She is healthy in every way and i am very lucky but just a paranoid first time mum!!

Sorry and thanks in advance to those who answer.

Newborn gums?
My boy was born like it and his first teeth appeared at 4 months. He has all these teeth lined up underneath his gums, you can see them and his gums are lumpy and contoured too. It is fairly normal and your baby could teeth early or not, you just don't know.
Reply:Your baby is OK. The bumps you see , I think are callouses. Nursing babies and those on bottles get them. If she is showing discomfort, then, rubbing them with a cold wash cloth can help. Don't worry though, they get these little "milk teeth" when they are that age, and nursing often.

Babies that young do not develop teeth. No matter their appearance, ask your doctor at her next check up, but, until then, don't worry.
Reply:When you take her for her check up with her pediatrician ask him if he blows it off. Take her to your dentist he can take an xray and know what's all up in coming.
Reply:I'm not expert about it so I can't help you.
Reply:babies can be born with teeth, so this is pretty normal. my son had bumpy gums too and he's been teething for a while and still no teeth have come tru yet (hes 5 months). dont worry too much about it
Reply:Baby teeth usually start coming in around the 6th month. The lower teeth come in first, and the first teeth will be the lower central incisors. Some babies will appear to cut teeth much sooner, but they may just be under the surface, and will actually emerge on schedule. Best thing you can do is bring it up to your pediatrician.

Odds are your baby is completely healthy and may teethe sooner than average, but that just means she's ahead of the rest of the little rugrats.

My advise is to relax, you little girl is fine. By the time you have the second baby, you'll totally forget that this was ever a concern. Babies don't come with instructions, so once you get past the first one, you have enough confidence not to worry so much. Good luck with your little one.
