Teeth gums are strange colored?

so i was looking at my gums, because i got a canker sore, and then i saw that the bottom of my gums are darker pink than the top thats attatched to teeth, like the inside where your chin is, its all dark or actually irs like reddish. why is it like that??

Teeth gums are strange colored?
It is because they are 2 different types of tissue. The tissue closer to your teeth which is more coral pink in color is referred to as "attached gingiva" because it is firmly attached to the underlying bone and is covered with keratinized epithelium. The second darker colored tissue you see is "alveolar mucosa" and is only loosely attached to the underlying bone. It has a smooth, shiny surface with nonkeratinized, thin epithelium and the underlying blood vessels may be see through it. So in a nutshell, one tissue is firm and attached to bone, the other is flexible and loosely attached to bone with the blood vessels showing through and giving the tissue its darker red color.

Hope that helps answer your question!

Reply:you have an std you need to go to the doctor they are called chanchor sores learned about them in class
Reply:it is simply because of blood flow. Don't worry it is normal.
Reply:It is normal. If your gums attached to your teeth are pinkish and not bright red that is a good thing. If they were bright red and swollen, that would be a sign of periodontal disease. If your gums bleed when you brush that could be a sign as well. The are below the gums that are attached to your teeth should be redder in color.
