My gums are receding bad, i don;t know why.?
Receding gums are very painful as you well know, the more they recede the more painful it becomes. You are very young to be having such perio issues, which means you need to work very hard if you want to keep them. My personal advice to you is to find a perio specialist. You can get a referral from your dentist. It cost's more to see a perio specialist, but you need to decide at what cost will you go to save your teeth. I am in the dental profession and I can tell you, when you have your teeth extracted your jaw bone will naturally recede. If your bone recedes enough, you be unable to wear a denture in time. The younger you are when you get a set of dentures, the more likely you are to face this humiliating problem later in your life.

if you decide not to see a perio specialist you must at least get on a perio hygiene program at your dental office. They will likely recommend a 3 month perio scale. You will need to stay on this program for life to prevent the alternative. In time your hygienist may feel you can go longer between your perio scale appointments, just fallow what they recommend. They only want to help you. As do I. Good Luck!

Reply:You still need to go to the dentist. Believe me, if you don't now, you may wish you had later. You may have gum disease, the progression of which could be halted by proper dental care.

Also, how do you brush your teeth? Do you use a soft bristle toothbrush. Brushing should be in elliptical motions across the gums and the teeth using very light pressure using a soft bristle brush. Also, don't forget to floss every day. This is very important as the areas between the teeth are actually more susceptible to damage and decay than the more visible areas.

There are some options for receding gums, such as gum grafts. However, the best option is to maintain the gum tissue that you have without causing more damage.

Good luck with this.
Reply:This is exactly the time to go to the dentist to find out what is going on. If your teeth are loose, there are things that can be done to fix it, but the longer you leave it, the cost will go up. Generally, there is some infection in the gums which causes the recession.
Reply:receding gums and loose teeth means u have to go for scaling

i am a dentist n I will suggest u to have immediate scaling as lots of calculus seems to be deposited below gums
Reply:Well, it is said if you don't floss gums recede. Sometimes a bacteria can get into the gum...then even with flossing the gum still recedes. You need to get to the dentist. Sometimes you might need a graft where they take skin from roof of mouth and cover the receded part. It may be something simpler for you...but you won't know if you don't go to the dentist. Now hmmm.....therein lies the problem. If you were going to the dentist every six months for a cleaning and for checkup you wouldn't be so worried. Dental health is very important; I realize it is expensive if you do not have insurance but you can make a schedule with you dentist and try and budget it into your budget.
Reply:You definitely need to see a dentist right away, the chipped tooth may have been traumatized thus affecting the surrounding area, dentist's aren't so bad, ask for nitrous and head phones for music, this should help calm ur nerves. Hopefully u have been brushing and flossing, and with a soft bristle brush in little round circles. A lot of people think hard bristle and lots of muscle! This is a no no! You need ur teeth so visit a dentist.....soon! good luck!
Reply:Well you could be brushing to hard. This causes recesion or wear facets by the gum line. Most times it is not painful, but sometimes it can be, if it gets bad enough. Use a soft toothbrush, and do not brush as hard.

But if your teeth are mobile and falling out, then you have periodontal disease. Perio is a major problem. It starts from calculus ( harden plaque) being left on your teeth and not cleaned offby the dentist. This causes your gums to receide from the bacteria eating your teeth. Then thats when they start to wiggle and fall out. There is nothing you can do to stop it. BUt if you get into a dentist, then they can clean them, and maintain the problem so it does not get worse. If you dont do anything you will eventully lose your teeth. If you catch it and maintain it early enough, then you should be able to keep your teeth for the rest of your life.
Reply:It may be periodontitis, otherwise known as gum disease. Gum disease is a serious problem that not only can affect your gingiva and the entire oral cavity, but the rest of your body such as the cardiovascular system.

You should visit your dental hygienist and have a full periodontal reading and assessment completed if you are serious in saving your remaining teeth. Without Periodontal treatment, it is likely that you will eventually lose the remaining teeth.
